Melchior Sidler 1633 -1706

Melchior had five children with Margaretha Bicklin. They married 8 January 1661. They had five children, one married and three lived to be adults. Melchior was employed as a Wagner. He must have been well known because his profession is noted in most Church Censuses. Melchior and his wife's death records are included below. They died 6 years apart. Melchior lived 72 years 11 months 22 days. Note that the surname "Bicklin" is the feminine form of Bickel.

Wagner is derived from the Germanic surname Waganari, meaning "wagonmaker" or "wagon driver". The Wagner surname is German. The name is also well established in Scandinavia, the Netherlands, eastern Europe, and elsewhere as well as in all German-speaking countries, and among Ashkenazi Jews. The Wagner surname was first found in Saxony, where the family became a prominent contributor to the development of the area from ancient times.

This common occupational surname was often given to one who transported produce or other goods via high-sided wagons or carts. Among some German populations, especially the Pennsylvania Germans, Wagner also denoted a wagon-maker, wainwright, or cartwright. (Wikipedia)
