Father: Philipp Jakob Kussmaul born 23 Dec 1790 Wiesloch nr Heidelberg Germany died 8 July 1850. Married 22 May 1821 to Louise Catharina Boehringer. Event place Söllingen, Durlach, Karlsruhe.

Adolph Kußmaul (German: Carl Philipp Adolf Konrad Kußmaul; 22 February 1822 – 28 May 1902) was a German physician and a leading clinician of his time. He was born as the son and grandson of physicians at Graben near Karlsruhe and studied at Heidelberg. He entered the army after graduation and spent two years as an army surgeon. Adolph married Luise Amanda Jacobine Wolf 1 Oct 1850. This was followed by a period as a general practitioner before he went to Würzburg to study for his doctorate under Virchow. He was subsequently Professor of Medicine at Heidelberg (1857), Erlangen (1859), Freiburg (1859) and Straßburg (1876).

First to describe dyslexia in 1877. (He called it 'word blindness'.)

First to describe polyarteritis nodosa.

First to describe progressive bulbar paralysis.

First to diagnose mesenteric embolism.

First to perform pleural tapping and gastric lavage.

First to attempt oesophagoscopy and gastroscopy.

Helene Louise Johanna Regine Kussmaul (1851-1933) married Heinrich Oster, 
Luise Ernstine Johanna Kussmaul (1853-1929) who married Vinzenz Czerny, 
Eduard Kussmaul (1856-1881), Hedwig (1867-1877) Eduard drowned in the Rhine 
Ida (1869-1946) who married Emil Ilse. Unfortunately two of them died early: Ida died from tetanus.

(4) His wife Philippine, née Meier. (B) Absent: (5) Franz Christoph Becker, "Laubwirth" in Berghausen. (6) His wife Jakobine, née Frommel. Comments: I was unable to find a definition for "Laubwirth". The word "Laub" alone translates as leaves or foliage, so perhaps innkeeper at the sign of the leaves?
