David b 1837, (1871 census and 1881 census) to William Shiells b 1788 Panbride, Forfarshire, d 1838 Forfar, Angus, Scotland, mother: Isobella Walker b 1796. sibblings: John 1814 - 1792, Elizabeth 1818 - 1882, Matthew 1826, Isabella 1834 - 1898, David 1838, Barbara 1840, Mary. Grandparents Andrew Shiells 1764 - 1884 and Margaret Gilchrist 1764 - 1824

David Shields was a ships carpenter in 1860 in the Dundee Harbor. (marriage certificate)
They had two children Christina P Shiells b November 14, 1863 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.
Elizabeth Duncan Shiells b 15 September 1867, fifteen days before her mother dies of TB
Elizabeth died September 30, 1867, 5h 25 min pm at 8 Fish Street Dundee,  She was 27. (see death certificate)

1869 August 13 Second marriage to Mary A B,  She has a daughter Martha J.  Mary is 9 years older than David

1881 census: David is now a ship wright and has Mary’s granddaughter living with them or staying with them on the date of the census:  They have also moved to the Linthouse Bldgs  Ship wright is a person who builds and launches wooden vessels or does carpentry work in connection with the building and launching of steel or iron vessels.
