Mildred Gardiner Lund, 87, passed away September 10, 1994.
Born January 11, 1907, the first child of Claire Midgley Gardiner and Richard Arthur Gardiner. She was premature, weighing only three pounds, and was kept in a shoe box in a warm oven because there were no incubators.She graduated from the U of U with a teaching certificate in 1928. She taught briefly before marrying John Farnsworth Lund in Salt Lake City on August 6, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1992. She worked for many years at the Salt Lake Clinic.
She will be greatly missed by friends and family for her enthusiasm, sense of fun and sharp intellect. She surrounded herself with beauty and shared that love with all who came to her home. She became an accomplished oil painter in her later years and brought a creative touch to all aspects of her life. She was always interested in the world and read widely to satisfy that curiosity.
Survivors: son and daughters, Sharon Walkington of Salt Lake City; David Lund of Boise, Idaho; and Claudia (Charles) Cannon of McLean, Virginia; sister and brother, Mrs. Louise Hall and Richard Gardiner, both of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Coombs of McLean, Virginia.
Funeral services Wednesday, September 14, 1994, 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 2350 East 1300 South, where friends may call one hour to prior to the service.
Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
